Facts About Jharkhand

  1. Barely legal

    Jharkhand came into existence on 15th November 2000, when it formed out of 24 districts of South Bihar.

    The Literal meaning of Jharkhand is the land of bushes, trees, jungles.

    It was the biggest and longest tribal revolt in the country against the British. It started in 1895 and lasted till 1900s.

    Jamshedpur is the first well planned industrial city in India. It was founded by Jamshedji Tata in 1907.
  8. Cruise named after Ranchi

    SS Raanchi British Vessel was named after Ranchi. It ferried between London and Bombay and also served as an armed merchant cruiser hms ranchi, during the World War 2.

    It is a popular jain pilgrimage site, on top of Parasnath Mountain Peak, according to the legends, 20 of the 24 jain tirthankaras attained moksha here.

    Largest Indian Flag with the tallest flagpole is hoisted at Pahari mandir in Ranchi. It weighs 60kg and has a dimension of 66feet by 99feet.

    Built on Barakar river, It has an underground power station, which is the only of its kind in Asia. The lake spreads over 65sq.Km.
  13. Ancient temples made of terracotta

    It is known for 72 extant terracotta temples. They were built around 17th-19th century and originally 108 in number, now only 72 survive.

    The stream is famous from clear and warm water emerging from the roots of the trees. The water is said to be of medical value.
